In our school the teaching of physical education aims to inspire a life long consideration of personal wellbeing. All children take part in a minimum of two hours of high-quality PE and sporting activities each week. Our school vision, values and key drivers support the development of rounded citizens and are central to the role of sports person. Our high-quality curriculum ensures that pupils have the opportunity to participate, succeed and excel in a broad range of physical activities. A well-balanced programme of sporting activities is provided for the children that includes opportunities for expressive and creative movement through dance, as well as gymnastics, athletics, games, and outdoor and adventurous pursuits. Learning through co-operative and competitive activities helps to promote an understanding of inter-personal relationships. The teaching follows a skills-based approach, working to ensure all pupils develop fundamental movement skills such as agility, balance and coordination. These skills are then applied to a variety of activities, games and competitive sports. Children in Sharks, Stingrays and Seahorses have swimming lessons at Bicester Leisure Centre for at least one term per year. All children have the opportunity to go on a residential trip when they are in Year 5 or 6. The children are all given the opportunity to take part in a wide range of tournaments and sports festivals between year groups and with other schools within our school sport partnership (NOSSP - North Oxfordshire School Sport Partnership). A competitive sports day is held annually. For more information about our use of the Sports Premium Grant see our reports page.
